Achoo! Is Your Car Ready for Spring?

Keywords: Spring, Cleaning, Air Filter, Cabin, Ventilation, Allergy, Allergies, Hypoallergenic

Is your car ready for spring? Spring is a wonderful season full of flowers, sunshine and pollen. For many of you, that means that spring is synonymous with allergies. Is your car helping or hurting your allergies? There are some steps you can take to lessen the impact of the pollen on the inside of your car. First of all, you can keep the mats vacuumed and clean as pollen will be tracked in on feet.

There is another way that pollen can get in your car, your ventilation, air conditioner and heating systems. The most important thing to do is to be sure that you have your cabin air filter inspected or replaced if it is time. Cabin air filters are used to filter out dust, pollen, bacteria and anything else that may try to enter your car through your ventilation, heating or air conditioning system. If your filter gets clogged it will not work to full capacity and you may even begin to smell a musty odor in your car.

Cabin air filters are usually changes every 12,000 to 15,000 miles, but you should check your car’s manual to see what is recommended for your specific car. Some are easy to change and others require special tools. Ask your service provider and they should be able to tell you where it is in your car. You can also request a hypoallergenic filter for your car. They are more expensive, but worth the extra cost if you or anyone who regularly rides in your car struggle with allergies.

At Suddeth Automotive, we have seen some really dirty filters in cars. We have even seen animals make a nest in a filter! I don’t think that is what the engineers had in mind when they added this part to cars. We at Suddeth Automotive hope you have a happy and healthy spring in and out of your car.
